still three months to go!
I want to go back to vienna now! or tomorrow! or next week! three months are a quarter of a year!
I'd be so ready to go. I hate this kind of waiting... my summer job hasn't started yet, I have no friends in tampere yet, I don't even know when anything is going to happen.
hmm... maybe I'll stop thinking rationally and just pack my stuff and go to vienna. nobody could stop me.
maybe.

"study trip" to vienna
the first days during our visit the weather was great. the sun was shining all the time and it was very warm, which was pretty nice for I had forgotten half of my luggage at saara's place. so the first days we spent in parks and did a bit of sightseeing as well. in addition on saturday we went to see the eurovision song contest finals to an australian bar close by where all the exchange students of the university had gathered to follow the show. unfortunately it was all about the show and nothing about the music because for a reason or another you could hear almost nothing. well, you could hear the finnish song because the finnish exchange students were in majority and so able to get everyone to shut up for those 3 minutes.
prater.
sunday was mothersday and we headed for new sights outwards from the city centre to see the schönbrunn castle. because of the heat we decided not to climb to the hill but stayed in the shadows of the park.
melanie and saara in schönbrunn.
saara too got excited by the city and its atmosphere. later on sunday we once again relaxed in a park, this time it was volksgarten. we were listening to finnish music and I got burned. the pale finn turned into red...
saara in volksgarten.
afterwards we went to the 8th district to a really nice restaurant. in the evening we stayed home and found out that canada had won against us in the icehockey world championship finals. nevertheless, what was really important was that we were better than the swedes - for the second time during the weekend (we also got 2 points more in the esc). a couple of days later when we brought our postcards to the post office, the clerk asked me if I had written in the cards about losing the world championship. I hadn't.
in the hallway.
tuesday was the big day for melanie - it was her graduation. we were also invited and the celebration started at the university with the formal part, which was actually quite nice. the ceremony wasn't too long or too formal. the main hall where the ceremony was held was as beautiful as the rest of the university. you could really sense the academic atmosphere there. after the ceremony we had some champagne at the university before we went to the campus brewery for lunch. the food was once again delicious. melanie's family was very friendly and interested in us, but still the day was quite tiring. in the evening saara and me drank some vodka with my roommate-to-be harald. well, it went on until the early morning hours, but you know what I mean.

on tuesday the weather changed and it was even raining. the temperatures sank rapidly, but we didn't let it disturb us. on wednesday saara and me had some breakfast at the naschmarkt and a walk in the city centre. in order to celebrate our last evening saara and melanie went out and I stayed home to drink even more vodka with harald. my plan was to join the girls later, but after we had finished the vodka I found out that the underground wasn't working anymore. so we continued with rum and once again ended up drinking til the dawn. on thursday we ordered some sushi and then left for the airport. I stayed in helsinki for the night and came to tampere today after getting the rest of my clothes from saara's place.

naschmarkt. karlskirche.
all in all the trip was successful although I never contacted the öad because of my 500 euros and ended up being poorer than in a long time. I'm sure I can count on saara coming to visit me when I return to the beautiful vienna!

grüße aus wien!
this is my postcard to everybody.
vienna is GREAT!!!!! at the moment I don't feel like going back to home at all, but I have to. I have obligations: work on saturday, exam on tuesday... so tomorrow I'll have to say auf wiedersehen to the sunny and warm vienna and return to the cold finland.
unfortunately kate couldn't come after all, so we had to survive without her great company and zubrowka. the people here have been awesome. melanie has taken really good care of us and I have absolutely no doubts about living together with harald.
the house is fabulous. it's in an old building with water tabs in the hallway and it's huge. it consists of four rooms and a kitchen and melanie's room alone is over 20 m², so lack of space won't be a problem.
the city itself has also impressed me. I couldn't remember anymore whether I liked the city because of how it is or because I was in such a good company, but it was the city. like saara says, it's a big city that doesn't feel big. there's something to see where ever you look but the pace is very cosy, people hang out in parks and the traffic is a mess only in the belt that goes around the city centre. I also hadn't realised how close everything is. on monday we walked to the shopping street mariahilfer straße and today to the heart of the city, but more about that later.
next time I'll tell you more and also post some pictures when I'm back in finland...

last preparations for the first trip to vienna
after the general rehearsals for the semifinals of the eurovision song contest on thursday (and yes, I'll skip school for that) I'll fly to vienna with saara. five days I have time there to get to know the university (party!), see the historical city (kate brings zubrowka!), talk all the organisational issues through with melanie (we'll bring koskenkorva vanilla) and go to öad to complain about the deposit (eurovision song contest finals!).

before returning to tampere last week I dedicated a day for all the paper work at the university. I realized that in order to be able to write my final essays I needed some literature. so I quickly copied some important looking pages from a couple of books. now I can only hope they're useful. I also visited the study advisor who signed my first version of learning agreement saying that my area of study is german studies and not scandinavian studies. I also got a new confirmation from our university as in the first one the amount of money I get from the university was wrong.
so, my friends, tomorrow I'll go to helsinki and on saturday to vienna. I'll write again when I'm back to tell you all about my "study visit".
